MRT-3 to implement passenger segregation anew

By Gabriela Baron

The Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) is set to implement anew its “Segregation Scheme” for passengers starting Sunday, Aug. 21, a day before the new school year begins.

MRT-3 management said the scheme will be reinstated in order to provide more relief to the train’s priority passengers, including students returning to schools.

In the segregation scheme, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women, and those traveling with children are given exclusive access to the train car’s first two doors.

The remaining three doors of the first train cars are for female passengers and female students.

Meanwhile, the second and third carriages of the train are open to all types of passengers.

Students may also avail of the 20% fare discount for the whole operation hours of the train. They may only need to present their valid student ID or original enrolment/registration form when purchasing a single-journey ticket. –ag
