MWSS assures water security

MANILA — The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) reassured residents of Metro Manila and nearby areas of adequate water supply even as it plans to tap new sources of water.

During the launching of a new media forum on Tuesday, MWSS administrator Reynaldo Velasco said the infrastructure projects being undertaken by MWSS and its concessionaires under President Rodrigo Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build” program will ensure water supply security in the next four years.

Velasco cited some of the undertakings of MWSS such as the Angat security projects, Bulacan Bulk Water Supply project, and the newly-approved Kaliwa Dam project.

He said water concessionaires are also installing new pipes and tapping dam sites.

“Tapping of new additional water supply is continually being pursued as part of the MWSS water security measure,” he said.

Metro Manila and environs have two water concessionaires –Manila Water and Maynilad.

Maynilad spokesperson Jeniffer Rufo said water security is also a top priority of Maynilad. (Ben Cal/PNA)
