An official of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on Tuesday, July 4, said there are currently no rotational water service interruptions for consumers of Maynilad and Manila Water.

In the Laging Handa briefing, Engr. Patrick Dizon, MWSS division manager, said both water concessionaires currently have sufficient water supplies.

“Sa ngayon, wala pa naman tayong nakikitang [rotational water] interruptions since ang sharing ng ating concessionaires dito sa ating Novaliches portal, kung saan naghahati ang tubig na nanggagaling sa Angat Dam, ay sufficient pa naman,” he said.

“Ang nakikita lang natin na worst-case scenario, just in case magkaroon po tayo ng low rainfall sa ating watershed, ay magkakaroon ng interruption dito sa ating areas ng Maynilad at around 6-10 hours,” he added.

He said these interruptions may affect approximately 632,000 household consumers of Maynilad.

The MWSS said augmentation measures including rehabilitations of deepwells will continue to be implemented, as well as the use of modular water treatment plants.

“Ito po ‘yung mga deepwells po na naka-stand by po siya, just in case na magkaroon po ng kakulangan ng katubigan dito sa Metro Manila ay ma-operate po natin. So around 14 million liters per day ‘yung kaya pong ma-i-produce nito,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dizon reminded the public to wisely consume water amid the threat of El Niño, and with Angat Dam’s water level nearing critical status.

“Ayaw naman po natin na ‘yung mga customers po natin ay totally mawalan ng tubig. Kaya kailangan po nating i-manage ang natitirang tubig dito sa ating Angat Dam reservoir. Patuloy po sana tayo magtipid at magkaroon po ng wise use of water,” he said. –ag
