MWSS seeks to defer water price increase in January 2020

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) has requested the two water concessionaires, Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Company, Inc. to postpone their water price hike (PHP2.00 per cubic meter from Manila Water and PHP1.95 per cubic meter from Maynilad) that takes effect in January 2020. MWSS’s move came following President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement that the state is on an adverse footing in the concession agreement with said water suppliers. The agency aims to convince the firms before the 16th of December, 2019.
