Namfrel, PPCRV to serve as citizen arms in May 14 village polls

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has accredited the National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) as its citizens’ arms in the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.

The poll body said the two election watchdogs were accredited based on their extensive experience.

“Considering that PPCRV and Namfrel have been the citizens arm of this Commission in past elections, and have contributed to the conduct of honest, orderly, peaceful elections as such citizens arm,” according to Comelec Minute Resolution No. 18-0329.

“The Commission resolves to adopt the recommendation of Commissioner Luie Guia that the petition and the letter of the PPCRV and Namfrel be treated as their manifestation of intent to discharge the duties of an accredited citizens arm of the Commission,” it added.

Both Namfrel and PPCRV have filed a letter and a petition seeking accreditation as citizens arms in the polls set for next week.

Meanwhile, the poll body has created hotlines for voters who have questions regarding their polling precinct assignments.

For inquiries, voters may call (02)526-7769; (02)527-9365; (02)5271896; (02) 559-9725; and (02) 567-4431.

The country has a total of 376,420 established polling precincts. (PNA)
