SANTA ANA, Cagayan — The Nangaramoan White Sand Beach here, touted as a world-class tourism destination in Northern Luzon, has remained closed and no opening date has yet been declared despite claims on social media that it has been opened, an ecozone official said on Monday.

Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) administrator-chief executive officer Raul Lambino said the beach, which was closed in January 2018, “remains closed to the public until further notice”. The closure was part of the government’s efforts to rehabilitate the beach.

“In effect, Nangaramoan is off-limits to tourists and no business operation is allowed in the area until all the requirements are fully complied with,” Lambino told reporters on Monday.

The CEZA, the local government unit of Sta. Ana and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources “would announce its official opening as soon as possible,” he added.

Nangaramoan Beach, which boasts of a 500-meter strip of white sand and located 13 kilometers from the town center of Sta. Ana, is part of an array of coral beaches on the northeastern coastline of Cagayan province facing the Pacific Ocean. It was a popular destination for picnics, swimming, snorkeling and other outdoor activities.

The Nangaramoan White Sand Beach was ordered closed for failure of the management to put up sanitation facilities and observe building construction and environmental laws.
