Nation-building never ends: Pimentel

MANILA — Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Tuesday called on Filipinos to celebrate the country’s 120th Independence Day by reaffirming their commitment to nation-building.

For Pimentel, independence is just the first step improving the quality of life for all Filipinos.

“We cannot falter in securing the gains we have made since our independence. Filipinos must use their political rights to empower their countrymen, especially the poor and needy,” said Pimentel.

The Senator in particular pointed to the unequal growth of regions which left large parts of the country mired in poverty even as other areas continue to experience economic growth.

“We have bold solutions available, such as federalism, but it can only do so much. Ultimately, bringing our country from the Third World to the First World requires constant effort on our part to select good leaders, to always put the interests of the country first, and eternal vigilance in holding our leaders accountable for their actions,” Pimentel said. (Senate PR)
