The Philippine Recurve Team will take a shot at the Archery World Cup 2021, the prestigious tournament which will serve as the last Tokyo Olympic qualifier which will be held from June 19 to 27 in Paris, France.
Siblings Pia and Gabrielle Bidaure, Jason Feliciano, Phoebe Ann Amistoso and Filipino-American Carson Hastie and Riley Silos are the 6 Filipino archers aiming for the elusive Olympic slot.
While they will be joining individual events, it will still be a big help for the team to train together to build each other up as the competition draws near.
“Luckily for us po, 4 out of 5 recurve are based in Dumaguete po. We just have Jason (Feliciano) from Dagupan po and fortunately he’s here with us. I think Sec Gen Dondon is working with Riley’s papers so we will soon get to train together,” Pia and Gabrielle Bidaure revealed.
Pia added that it has also been a great relief for them not to worry about the documents needed for the trip to Paris since the World Archery Philippines (WAP) shouldered the matter so the athletes could focus on their training.
“Sec Gen and coaches are trying to work things out so it will be easier for us po. They support us. We only think about training and they are the ones fixing the paper works and all the things po,” Pia Bidaure continued.
To ensure a slot in the quadrennial meet, the National Archers need to get a medal in the said Olympic qualifier.
