NCR sees increase in reproduction numbers

The reproduction number of COVID-19 cases or speed of infection transmission in Metro Manila has once again increased.

According to data from the OCTA Research Group, from the previous 0.37, the reproduction number has gone up to 0.52.

The one week growth rate in the region has also increased to 8%.

From a 404 7-day average, the average daily reported cases in Metro Manila also slightly increased to 435.

However, aside from this, Dr. Guido David from OCTA said that this does not yet indicate an upward trend in the region.

Meanwhile, Department of Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the situation isn’t one of concern right now.

She said that there is still two to three weeks of waiting before the effects of the Alert Level 2 in NCR can be seen.

“Ang akin lang pong gustong ibigay na warning, with the continuous increase in mobility, decrease of compliance to safety protocols and crowding, nandiyan ang malaking probabilidad na tumaas muli ang mga kaso. Kaya kailangan tulong-tulong po tayo,” Vergeire said in a media forum.

“Continuous ang monitoring natin, continuous ang coordination, nakapagbigay na rin tayo ng pondo at equipment sa mga ospital nila and even testing kits patuloy natin silang binibigyan para atin pong matulungan sila sa pagaddress at maputol ang community transmission sa kanilang lugar,” she said. -Report from Mark Fetalco/PG-rir
