NCRPO cites almost 32K dedicated cops

MANILA — Close to 32,000 police officers assigned in Metro Manila have received commendations, even as 42 have been sanctioned during the first month in office of Director Camilo Cascolan, who took over as Philippine National Police National Capital Region Police Office (PNP-NCRPO) head last April.

In a statement released Friday, Cascolan, who replaced PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde in the NCRPO, said that as part of the internal cleansing program, his office is seeking to streamline the process of investigation for policemen with pending charges to arrive at a fair decision for all concerned.

He directed the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division Pre-Charged Section, Discipline Law and Order Section and Regional Legal Service to hasten the investigation of all NCRPO personnel, who are facing charges and come up with a comprehensive and fair decision as soon as possible.

Cascolan rewarded 31,933 deserving and well-performing cops of the NCRPO. Of the total, 1,421 awards were presented to personnel of the Regional Headquarters NCRPO; 6,231 to personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion; 4,207 to personnel of the Northern Police District; 3,308 to the Eastern Police District; 5,385 to the Manila Police District; 5,701 to the Southern Police District; 5,505 to the Quezon City Police District; and 144 awards to personnel of Regional Support Units. He also presented 31 letters of commendation.

Some of the awardees were recognized for their dedication to police service last year.

On the other hand, some 42 personnel were sanctioned for different violations and misconduct. Two were dismissed from the police service while two others were demoted; 26 were suspended; and 12 were relieved from their post since April 19.

“I believe that one simple award or recognition is enough to uplift their morale and integrity. But I am tough on those who are lousy and erring. They should pay for their negligence of duty or for doing illegal activities,” Cascolan said. (PNA)
