The population affected by Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) has climbed to 4,678,142 persons as of Thursday, according to the latest update from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
In its report, the disaster response agency said the affected individuals are equivalent to 1,332,223 families residing in 11,661 barangays in 16 regions.
As of Thursday afternoon, 177,120 families are sheltering inside 9,054 evacuation centers, while another 85,899 are receiving assistance in other places.
Reported fatalities remained at 27, along with 36 injured and two missing, all of which are still undergoing validation, the NDRRMC said.
Uwan, one of the strongest cyclones to hit the country this year, also left 75,050 houses damaged and 10,738 destroyed in 13 regions.
Agriculture damage was estimated at P143.72 million for four regions, while infrastructure damage was placed at P675.02 million for six regions.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered round-the-clock relief and rehabilitation operations in areas ravaged by the super typhoon, directing all government agencies to stay on full alert. (PNA)
