NDRRMC on red alert due to ‘Ambo’

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is currently on red alert status due to Typhoon Ambo.

The council has been monitoring reports from provinces affected by Typhoon Ambo, and has been collecting data on the number of individuals to be evacuated and the damage brought about by the typhoon.

NDRRMC has reminded LGUs to observe physical distancing in evacuation centers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

NDRRMC and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Spokesperson Mark Timbal said evacuees must wear face masks while the personnel in charge of evacuation processing must wear PPEs.

The Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP) has also expressed preparedness on the effects of the typhoon. AFP Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos said instructions have been given to standby units of the AFP.

Meanwhile, the AFP has turned over its donation to the OCD for the fight against COVID-19. The AFP has raised Php 16 million from the salaries of its personnel for the month of May.
