BACOLOD CITY — The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) reminded the public on the guidelines in the use of firecrackers as well on the safe use of firearms during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., provincial police director, said the police will remain vigilant for those not strictly complying with the firecracker regulation, including manufacturers of illegal fireworks and firecrackers.
The NOCPPO cited Republic Act 7183, or an Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, and Use of Firecrackers and other Pyrotechnic Devices, and Executive Order 28, which regulates and controls of the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
Castil noted that the conduct of community fireworks display inside the firecracker zone or community fireworks display zone shall be under the supervision of a trained person duly-licensed by the police as fireworks display operator.
Moreover, Castil reminded gun owners to prevent victims of stray bullets.
“Those who will use their firearms indiscriminately whether uniformed personnel or civilian will face appropriate charges,” he added.
Castil encouraged Negrenses to use safe merry-making instruments and alternative noise-makers instead of using firecrackers and fireworks that pose risks to health and public safety.
“Everyone should be responsible in dealing with firecrackers, and parents should strictly guide their children,” he added. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
