BACOLOD CITY — The provincial government of Negros Occidental established a free-range chicken multiplier farm in Barangay Lag-asan, Bago City on Thursday.

The project is being implemented by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) in partnership with the Bago City Veterinary Office.

“It is expected to boost chicken production in the city and nearby areas, mainly by serving as the source of good quality chicks,” the PVO headed by Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said in a statement.

The multiplier farm project, which costs PHP400,000, includes a building, an incubator, initial stocks of 150 heads of free-range chicken, and brooder for chicks. The breeder population is expected to produce eggs in a month.

The recipient-local government unit (LGU) provided the project site and will be in-charge of the operation and management of the farm.

It will also undertake a continuing dispersal of free-range chicken to its constituents as its contribution to sustain the province’s poultry production effort.

The establishment of multiplier farms is being implemented under the PVO’s Animal Genetic Improvement Program and Negros First Animal Livelihood Program.

So far, the PVO has already established eight multiplier farms for free-range chicken and five others for duck production with its 13 LGU-partners. (Erwin Nicavera/PNA)
