‘Neneng’ infra damages top 81-M, families hit near 30-k

A total of 103,662 individuals or 29,544 families were affected by Typhoon “Neneng” as of Tuesday, Oct. 18, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Around 4,450 individuals were also displaced including 1,865 that were evacuated and 2,594 outside evacuation centers across Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

No fatalities and missing individuals were recorded, while two other persons sustained injuries during the typhoon’s onslaught.

Damage to infrastructure also ballooned to P81,555,000. At least 33 public infrastructures were damaged including 24 roads, while 36 houses were partially damaged and two were totally destroyed.

Current estimates also show that 1,124 farmers and fisherfolk were affected, with agricultural damages amounting to P7,687,525.38.

Twenty-four towns declared class and work suspensions.

“Neneng” entered the Philippine area of responsibility as a tropical depression at 12 noon on Oct. 13. It intensified into a tropical storm on Oct. 15 afternoon, into a severe tropical storm on Oct. 16 morning, and reached typhoon category status on Oct. 16 afternoon. – gb
