New BFP-Zambo director vows more fire stations

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Bureau of Fire Protection 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) is eyeing to establish additional fire stations with matching personnel here in the region.

This was announced by Senior Supt. Sydney Besaña, who assumed on Monday as new BFP-9 regional director, replacing Senior Supt. Carlito Oceña.

Besaña said he intends to acquire more fire trucks with the help of the BFP central office, to establish a fire station, if possible, in every municipality in the region.

“Not all of the municipalities here in Region 9 have fire stations,” he added.

He said his office will work in coordination with the local government units to establish sub-stations in the barangays and to rehabilitate the dilapidated fire stations.

Besaña served as the fire marshal in Davao City prior to his assignment as new BFP-9 regional chief replacing Oceña.

Oceña retired from the BFP service on November 24.
