New Clark City gov’t center set for completion in 2020

MANILA — The construction of the national government center in New Clark City, one of the 75 flagship projects under the Duterte administration’s infrastructure program, is underway and has been set for completion by 2020, according to the country’s chief economic planner.

“Our vision of having a centralized government center is finally in the works of becoming a reality. By 2020, we will see the NGAC (National Government Administrative Center) completed and fully operational,” Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said Wednesday in Tarlac.

Pernia noted that the project signifies government’s commitment to spread out development across the regions, while decongesting Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, and Davao.

“At the same time, the NGAC will ensure a more organized bureaucracy and faster processes, bringing government workers and government agencies spatially closer together,” he said.

The PHP12.69-billion centralized government center will house satellite offices of all the branches of the government –executive, legislative, and judiciary– along with their attached agencies.

Economic managers on Wednesday conducted a briefing on the “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

Pernia said there are almost 5,000 projects in the Public Investment Program 2017-2022.

He said the number includes the administration’s 75 flagship projects, “32 of which we strive to finish by end-term in 2022.” (Leslie Gatpolintan/PNA)
