BACOLOD CITY — New faces will assume the ex-officio positions as representatives of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in the Bacolod City Council and the Negros Occidental Provincial Board following the simultaneous elections held in this city on Monday.

Lady Gles Gonzales of Taculing village, 33, ran unopposed as president of ABC or Liga ng nga Barangay in Bacolod City while Juvy Pepello of Victorias City was elected Negros Occidental Liga president.

Gonzales was proclaimed by the Board of Election Supervisors after the election held at the MassKara Hall of the Bacolod City Government Center.

The Taculing village chair, who received 50 votes, vowed to be transparent in her leadership.

“I would be transparent. The support of my fellow barangay captains is overwhelming. I have to return back the respect they give to me,” Gonzales said.

A total of 55 out of the city’s 61 barangay captains participated in the election.

Gonzales, an ally of the administration party, succeeded Tangub village chief Noli Villarosa. She will become the 14th city councilor after Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president Ayesha Joy Villaflor assumed her post in the City Council earlier this month.

The 10 other officials who ran with Gonzales were also unopposed.

Elected vice president was Franklin Andre Familiaran of Barangay 13, son of Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, while Jose Maria Leandro Norberto de Leon of Vista Alegre was voted as auditor.

The board of directors is composed of Rosinie Distrito of Singcang-Airport, Rodney Carmona of Sum-ag, John Mark Petierre of Barangay 30, Degie Tanista of Alangilan, Anthony Jose Ayco of Barangay 15, Ricky Mijares of Banago, Rodolfo Pico of Mansilingan, and Romel Flores of Villamonte.
Meanwhile, 52-year-old Pepello of Victorias City won the election participated in by all the Liga presidents of the province’s 31 towns and cities held at Seda Hotel.

Pepello, who hails from the northern Negros city’s Barangay 9, garnered 19 votes to defeat reelectionist Annabelle Bermudo of La Carlota City, who got 12 votes.

Also elected were Jose Benjamin Sian of Himamaylan City as vice president; Ma. Misil Hilario of Moises Padilla, auditor; Romy Vargas of Sipalay City, Romar Cabral of Ilog, Rosalita Arsenal of E.B. Magalona, Anthony Wee San Carlos City, Joe Starr Bandojo of Kabankalan City, Antonio Mendeceles of Isabela, Aristotle Tuvilla of Talisay City, and Lorenzo Suatengco of Pulupandan, board of directors.

Pepello, who is allied with the opposition Love Negros led by Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson, will sit as the 15th member of the Provincial Board.

Negros Occidental has 12 regular board members or two each from the six districts. The two other ex-officio members represent the Philippine Councilors League and the SK. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
