The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two new roads in the Municipality of San Jorge and in Calabayog City, Samar, improving local connectivity and agricultural productivity in the area.

Completed in San Jorge is a two-lane, portland cement concrete pavement spanning 700 meters with 14.23 meters of stone masonry, which now connects Barangay Buenavista to Brgy. Janipon.

“This new road facilitates cheaper and faster transport and delivery of rice, vegetables, and root crops of farmers to bigger market hubs in the town proper,” said DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar Tabacon.

Meanwhile, the DPWH also finished road opening works on a 2.15-kilometer access road that will link the hard-to-reach communities of Brgys. Canhumadac and Helino to urbanized areas in Calbayog City, providing residents of isolated areas with access to education, healthcare, employment, and other basic social services needed to uplift their daily living conditions.

Both projects were implemented by the DPWH Samar 1st District Engineering Office, with a combined budget of P49.35 million, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA) while concreting of the access road in Calbayog City is proposed to be included in the 2026 GAA.
