CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – The National Food Authority (NFA) is flooding Bulacan with rice at PHP32 per kilo.
Elvira Oban, NFA-Bulacan manager, said Thursday that 60,800 sacks of rice imported by the government already arrived in its provincial warehouses.
“These rice are now being made available to all public markets and accredited rice retailers in Bulacan,” she said.
With the replenishment of its rice stocks, the NFA-Bulacan launched 36 Bigasang Bayan in 21 towns and three cities of this province with a rice allocation of 50 sacks to 100 cavans per day each , depending on its capacity to sell to the consuming public.
On the other hand, the rice allocation to the 300 NFA-accredited rice retailers was increased to 30-40 sacks compared to the previous 10 to 20 sacks that were later reduced to five to 10 cavans.
“With the increased rice allocation to the accredited rice retailers plus that of the Bigasan Bayan, Bulakenyo rice consumers are now assured of ample supply of cheap rice,” Obana said.
She aldded that NFA would sell its rice to accredited traders at PHP1,500 per sack or PHP30 per kilo that should be sold to the consuming public at PHP32 per kilo, leaving the traders a gross profit of PHP2 per kilo or PHP100 per sack. (Manny Balbin/PNA)
