The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) announced Wednesday, Nov. 23, that the occupancy of its emergency room has breached thrice its capacity amid the influx of patients.
NKTI said there are no more vacant rooms in its wards and also noted the lack of nurses in its facilities.
The government-run facility advised the public to have themselves checked in hospitals nearest to them for immediate medical attention, or to call the National Patient Navigation and Referral Center.
The Department of Health (DOH) said it is closely coordinating with NKTI over the matter.
“In fact, DOH USec Nestor Santiago is in NKTI right now to assess the situation and ensure that all patients who will be going to NKTI will be effectively referred to nearby hospitals for appropriate management,” the DOH told reporters.
“Rest assured that the DOH is on top of this and will make sure that all patients seeking care will be accommodated. We will be providing more updates as we receive them,” it added.
