‘No appearance’ voter registration for passport holders eyed

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is now considering the possibility of conducting a “no appearance” voter registration for passport holders.

Commissioner Rowena Guanzon explained the COMELEC may utilize the biometric records from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for the verification of registrants.

The COMELEC is now coordinating with the DFA on the matter. The proposal intends to increase the number of registered voter in the country amid the pandemic.

The voter registration in the country has resumed last September 1 with strict implementation of minimum health protocols to prevent the transmission of coronavirus. – PTV Balita Ngayon
