No disclosure of sensitive info on vote recount: Robredo lawyers

MANILA — The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo said on Monday it has not violated the gag order in connection with the ongoing recount of votes for the 2016 vice presidential poll.

In their compliance to show cause order, Robredo’s legal counsels Romulo Macalintal and Maria Bernadette Sardillo stressed that it has “not disclosed any sensitive information regarding the revision process” in their past media interviews.

Macalintal and Sardillo said they express “sincere regret if any of their actions have offended the sensitivities of the Honorable Tribunal and they had no intention to violate its orders.”

Macalintal explained that their statements delved on the general principles of law or in defense of the rights, honor and integrity of Robredo “because Marcos’ lawyers have been releasing statements misleading the public since the start of the revision process.”

The Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, directed the camps of Robredo and former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to show cause as to why they should not be cited in contempt after observing that they have disclosed sensitive information regarding the manual recount of votes.

The PET earlier said it had released two resolutions which instruct both parties to refrain from discussing the vote recount to the public. (Ma. Teresa Montemayor/PNA)
