Notorious drug pusher killed in Cavite

BACOOR CITY, Cavite – A notorious drug pusher was killed while trying to engage police and anti-illegal drug operatives in a shootout, as he attempted to evade arrest during a drug buy-bust operation in his house in Green Valley, Barangay San Nicolas 3 here, on Saturday afternoon.

Police Superintendent Francisco Lucena III, the city police chief, said Ronnel Montebon, 28, tried to shoot and lob a grenade on pursuing policemen while scaling through the roof of his house.

The suspect’s gun misfired and tried to unpin his grenade. But the pursuing officer, Senior Police Officer 1 Angelito Roxas, was quick to shoot him, Lucena said.

Minutes earlier, the city police enforcers and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives, led by Agent Ma. Fatima Caboteja, conducted a drug buy-bust operation against the suspect with Police Officer 2 Dave Gregor Bautista acting as poseur-buyer.

The undercover cop and a confidential asset were transacting with the suspect to buy the illegal drug locally known as “shabu” but the latter sensed he was dealing with police poseur-buyers.

Suspect Montebon, who was armed with a gun and a grenade, tried to hide atop his house to elude arrest.

Scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) team recovered at the crime site the suspect’s cal. 9mm pistol Armscor with serial number ‎‎1030504, which was loaded with one live ammunition and magazine loaded with eight pieces of live ammunition; a hand grenade and a black coin purse with twelve sachets of shabu. (Rogelio Limpin/PNA)
