The National Privacy Commission (NPC) is looking into the report of a large scale data breach involving over 533 million Facebook accounts of users in 106 countries.

The NPC said it will focus on the more than 800,000 Filipino Facebook accounts. The agency has coordinated with Facebook’s data officer in the Philippines to obtain information regarding the data leakage.

Based on news reports, the names, phone numbers, email addresses, and other information of the account holders have been compromised.

Meanwhile, the NPC advised Facebook users to take precautions in their online activities and to regularly update their password or use a two-step authentication process for their account.
