NTC says PH internet speed improved under Duterte administration

The Philippine internet speed improved under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration.

The National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) said on Monday (July 19) the internet speed was based on the data of the international internet speed monitoring firm Ookla. According to the NTC, the fixed broadband internet speed has increased by 741% and the mobile internet speed increased by 341% since the start of the current administration.

The commission said the average download speed for the fixed broadband in June is 66.55 Megabits per second (Mbps) while 22.84 Mbps for mobile internet.

Based on the May 2021 Ookla Speedtest Global Index Report, the average mobile download speed in the country was 31.98 Mbps while the average download speed for fixed broadband internet was 58.73 Mbps.

The internet speed has greatly improved compared to the 7.91 Mbps fixed broadband average speed and 7.44 Mbps mobile internet speed in July 2016.
