Nueva Ecija highlights PH flag for June 12 rites

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — Government and non-government institutions on Wednesday separately marked the country’s 121st Independence Day in this province by displaying the Philippine flag using different materials.

Government officials and employees in the capitol and the cities and municipalities gathered for their respective early morning flag ceremonies and brief programs.

The Catholic-based Knights of Columbus Archbishop Gabriel M. Reyes Assembly (AGMRA) hoisted the Philippine flag at the historical Plaza Lucero in front of St. Nicolas Cathedral along the streets of Del Pilar and Rizal, this city.

SM City Cabanatuan launched a 5×10-meter flag created from rice husk and hoisted the giant flag in a program participated in by personnel of different government agencies.

The SM Megacenter, meanwhile, unveiled a Philippine flag with an image of rice paddies, at its event hall together with the exhibit of various gowns and barongs created by Novo Ecijano designers.

Carol Licup, assistant mall manager, said the centerpiece aims to honor farmers.

The Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry Division (7ID) based in Fort Ramon Magsaysay showcased its capabilities and development support in a static display at the SM Megacenter.

“The public has got the opportunity to know the kinds of weapons and equipment that the military used in defending and maintaining the country’s independence,” Capt. Catherine Halin, head of the division’s public affairs office, said.
