OFW in Dubai dies after getting hit by car

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates died after getting into a road accident, according to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Gina Sorianosos, 48, was hit by a vehicle while crossing the pedestrian lane.

Her remains were already sent home, according to OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio.

“Siya ay todong tinulungan ng OWWA at ‘yung kanyang employer, pati ‘yung kanyang pinsan… dinala sa Dubai para mapirmahan ‘yung mga necessary paper,” Ignacio said.

Based on OWWA’s list, Sorianosos is an undocumented OFW, but Ignacio vowed to still help her family.

“Tinitingnan natin kung ano pa ‘yung maitutulong natin. Syempre tutulungan pa rin natin ‘yung sa kanyang funeral expenses,” Ignacio continued.

“Basta naman within the jurisdiction ng OWWA ay kinikilusan natin agad,” he added.

According to Ignacio, the suspect already surrendered to authorities and is now in jail. – Report from Louisa Erispe/GB-ag
