ONE ASEAN hailed as best talk show at 40th Catholic Mass Media Awards

The 30-minute talk show ONE ASEAN of the People’s Television Network bagged the Best Talk Show award at the recently concluded 40th Catholic Mass Media Awards held at the Star Theater in Pasay City on Wednesday, November 14.

On hand that night to receive the award was the entire creative team behind the show, including host Charms Espina.

The ONE ASEAN team is ecstatic to have received this recognition from the CMMA. It validates all the hard work we put into the show”, shares Espina.

Broadcasting on free TV since October 2017 every Tuesday and Thursday night, ONE ASEAN serves as a springboard for discussions related to issues and topics concerning the ASEAN community such as integration, investment opportunities, migrant workers’ rights, biodiversity, and the many challenges and milestones marked by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in its 50 years as an inter-governmental body.

The program also tackles the Philippines’s participation in the Association’s vision of regional progress, peace and stability, as guided by its three pillars – the ASEAN political-security community, the ASEAN economic community, and the ASEAN socio-cultural community.

“We have had the privilege of talking to various opinion leaders and resource persons on the show, from which we harvested insights on issues that greatly impact us as Filipinos and as ASEAN citizens. And with regional integration bearing down on us in the next few years, it’s imperative to know where we stand in the bigger picture. Down the line, it’s crucial to remember that geography is immutable, we can’t change where we live and where the Philippines is located. Therefore as we celebrate our national identities, more than ever we must remember that we are all Asean citizens. This show was a celebration of just that,” says Espina.

Other PTV programs and specials that were nominated for CMMA trophies were Iskoolmates (Best Talk Show and Best Children & Youth Program), Mga Bakas ng Sigwa: A Marawi Special (Best TV Special), Public Eye (Best Children & Youth Program), and Damayan Ngayon (Best Public Service Program).
