GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite – The Department of Education (DepEd)-Cavite office welcomed back grade schoolers and ushered in new students in public schools during Monday’s opening of classes that run smoothly and peacefully.
Cavite School’s District Supervisors Dr. Laura Garcia, Dr. Edna Bayot and Dr. Prudencio Animas, who personally supervised the class opening especially at the Gov. Ferrer Memorial National High School here, described the situation as generally smooth and peaceful.
They attributed the orderly opening of classes to the collaborative efforts of the school management, faculty, staff, teachers and even parents with the enormous help and assistance of the local police and barangay officials and tanods (village guardians).
As early as 6:30 Monday morning, public school teachers and students trooped to the different public schools in this city’s 33 local barangays.
Deputized traffic enforcers managed the traffic flow in each school together with the members of the city police force, headed by Supt. Paul Bometivo, the city chief of police.
In time for the opening of classes, the city government led by Mayor Antonio ‘Ony’ Ferrer, Vice Mayor Morit Sison and other city officials with Cavite 6th District Representative Luis ‘Jon-Jon’ Ferrer IV also inaugurated the 3-storey, 6 classrooms building at Cecilio Saliba Elementary School in Pasong Camachile 1; and a 4-storey, 8 classrooms in Buenavista Elementary School in Brgy. Buenavista II.
Around 32 new classrooms were also ready at the Gov. Ferrer Memorial National High School after these were constructed early this year, through the fund support from the city government and the Office of Congressman Ferrer.
In his remarks, Dr. Animas underscored to education stakeholders that “the child is the center of the educational system” while reminding teachers and students to wear their proper uniform and school IDs.
Animas also disclosed that most public schools in the city have maintained their manageable classroom-student and teacher-pupil ratio over the years.
The city government has also scheduled to distribute school bags and school supplies to all grade schoolers in public schools in the 33 barangays.
Congressman Ferrer also assured that his congressional district office will shoulder the school supplies of all Day Care pupils of this city and in the neighboring towns of Tanza and Amadeo and Trece Martires City.
“It is a good practice for the local government to provide school supplies whenever the school opens as this would relieve the parents from the burden on educational expenses for their children,” Mayor Ferrer said. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
