More than 3,000 households in Metro Manila are included in the different granular lockdowns implemented by various local government units (LGUs).
In a virtual briefing on Wednesday (Sept. 1), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairperson Benhur Abalos said they hope that the granular lockdowns can help bring down COVID-19 numbers.
As of Sept. 1, Abalos said 3,340 households, seven barangays, and 13 buildings are under granular lockdowns.
According to Abalos, region-wide imposition of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to areas with a high number of COVID-19 cases would be the last option if granular lockdowns appear to be effective.
“As it is right now, iyong ECQ should be the last [option]… Ngayon, granular lockdowns ang ginagawa. Tina-target [nito] ang mga household na highly contagious,” Abalos said.
In Pasay City, about 540 households with asymptomatic and mild COVID-19 cases were placed under granular lockdowns.
Pasay City Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano told PTV that such lockdown measures help the city in containing the virus.
“Kung hindi namin ginagawa itong granular lockdown, mas mabilis pa at mas mataas pa ang aming cases sigurado. Pero dahil napabagal natin ang growth rate, kahit tumataas siya ay hindi gaanong kabilis,” Rubiano said. – Report from Patrick de Jesus / CF – bny
