According to the latest report of the OCTA Research Group, Quezon City ranks 16th among Metro Manila cities in terms of average daily attack rate for the week of Aug. 24 to 30 and was able to contain its cases despite the ongoing surge in the country.
Professor Guido David of the OCTA Research Group shared that the average new cases per day for Aug. 24 to 30 is 694, lower than the 727 cases or -5% from the previous week. The reproduction number also dropped to 1.30, from the prior week’s 1.53.
The daily attack rate is also at 21.79 (from 22.83), which makes it the second lowest in Metro Manila. Meanwhile, the positivity rate increased from 24% to 25%.
“While it may take maybe two more weeks based on our projections for cases to decrease, as long as big cities like Quezon City continue to have lower growth rates or a decline, we can overcome this surge,” Prof. David said.
Mayor Joy Belmonte highlighted that Quezon City remains vigilant over the number of cases and applies the tried and tested strategies of increased tracing and testing, immediate isolation, and granular lockdowns, to manage the growth in the number of cases.
“Following the report of the Department of Health (DOH) that we have recorded more than 22,000 cases in a day nationwide, this analysis of our numbers helps us see that our efforts are working. We have managed to improve our COVID-19 responses over time and now we are seeing developments in managing surges,” Mayor Belmonte said.
As of Aug. 31, the total number of cases in the city is 131,681. Active cases are at 9,537 (7.3%), deaths at 1,335 (1%) and recoveries are at 120,809 (91.7%).
The occupancy rate of all 12 Hope Isolation Facilities is 75% as of Aug. 30.
The city government also continues to fast-track its QCProtekTodo Vaccination Program.
As of Aug. 31, 8 AM, the city has administered 2,451,630 first and second-dose vaccines. Out of the total, 1,701,211or 100.07% of the target 1.7million population to achieve population protection have received their first dose while 750,419 or 46.72% have received their second doses.
Mayor Belmonte reiterated the need to religiously observe health protocols and IATF guidelines, given community transmission of the Delta variant across the country.
“We remind our QCitizens to continue following minimum health standards and to immediately get themselves vaccinated. The city will continue to expand its vaccination program to achieve full population protection as soon as possible,” Mayor Belmonte said. (QC LGU) – bny
