The government has allotted a P151 billion budget for social protection programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), an official of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) confirmed Tuesday, Jan. 31.

The budget is reflected in the Republic Act 11936 or the Fiscal Year 2023 General Appropriations Act.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman affirmed the government’s commitment and efforts in addressing the immediate challenges that Filipinos face, especially those belonging to the most vulnerable sectors.

“The mandate of President Bongbong Marcos is clear— for the government to ensure that no Filipino will be left behind,” Pangandaman said.

“Alam din po namin na ang mga social assistance programs na kagaya nito ay nagsisilbing sandalan ng mga kababayan nating lubos na nangangailangan,” she continued.

The official also vowed that the DBM “will exert its utmost [effort]” to make sure that the agency’s social protection programs are funded.

Among DSWD’s social protection services are the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP), Protective Services for Individuals and Families in Difficult Circumstances (PSIFDC), and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). – Katrina Gracia Consebido/ gb
