P3.4-M worth of shabu seized in northern Negros buy-bust

BACOLOD CITY – A drug personality, who yielded some P3.4 million in suspected shabu, was arrested in a buy-bust by joint anti-drug operatives in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday (Oct. 27) afternoon.

A police report identified the suspect as Emil Fernandez Mariano, 39, unemployed, and tagged as a high-value individual.

A resident of Burgos Street, Barangay 6, Mariano was cornered in the area along 5th Street in Margarita Village, Barangay 2 at past 12:30 p.m. by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Western Visayas Special Enforcement Team led by Investigation Agent 1 Jay-R Espares together with personnel of San Carlos City Police Station headed by operations officer Lt. Rodney Sarona.

Mariano sold a sachet of shabu worth P10,000 to a poseur buyer, leading to his arrest, the police report said.

Operatives also recovered from his possession 25 plastic sachets containing the prohibited substance, weighing about 500 grams.

Each gram is pegged at a standard drug price of P6,800 or a total of P3.4 million.

Other seized items included a motorcycle, a black sling bag, and a red box, the police report added. (PNA) – bny
