Pa who killed young daughter commits suicide in jail

DAVAO CITY — The father who burned to death his three-year-old child last month committed suicide by hanging himself inside his police detention cell on Wednesday.

Chief Insp. Emerson Pugong, commander of the Sasa Police Precinct, said detainee Randy Nueva Cadiente was found hanging on a stretchable bandage on the railings of the detention center’s toilet ceiling at about 4:30 a.m.

The incident was reported by PO1 Karlo Luigi Mendoza, who was the duty officer at that time.

With the help of some detainees, the victim was brought outside the detention cell.

He reportedly had vital signs indicating he was still alive, prompting the police officer to call Central 911 for assistance.

Cadiente was rushed to the Southern Philippine Medical Center but was declared dead upon arrival by attending physicians.

Cadiente was detained last March 19 for a case of parricide filed against him before the Office of the City Prosecutor after he burned his daughter last month.

The girl died of severe burn injuries in different parts of her body.
It was learned that he had tried to kill himself twice by banging his head on the wall.

Pugong said Cadiente hanged himself with the same bandage he used in his second suicide attempt. (Rhoda Grace Saron/PNA)
