PACC aims to curb corruption in government before PRRD’s term ends

By Ryan Lesigues

The Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) is confident that they will be able to curb corruption in government during President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s remaining time in office.

At today’s Laging Handa Briefing, PACC Chairperson Greco Belgica said the President has strictly ordered them to curb government corruption in the remaining year of his term.

The PACC warned corrupt government officials and employees that the agency will continue releasing their names publicly in addition to their being charged and removed from office.

“Definitely a case will be filed against them in the Office of the Ombudsman, kasama po ng [along with the] task force against corruption, and a complete report to the President will be given para po kanyang basahin [for him to read],” Belgica said.

Belgica also presented the mandate of their new PACC program “Tokhang Laban sa Korapsyon.”

This involves encouraging all government officials to join the President’s advocacy to fight corruption by working with the PACC and assigning staff to quickly determine and investigate cases of corruption in their respective agencies.

The program also requires the dissemination of correct information and knowledge throughout the agency by conducting training and meetings about the true meaning of public service. This is to be followed by the signing of a manifesto of support and the retaking of the oath of allegiance to their duties.

It also includes building and conducting a simpler process through the use of modern technology aimed at speeding up and removing any streak of corruption in the government system.

So far, according to Belgica, there are several government agencies that are under monitoring due to many corruption complaints they received.

“Ang amin pong mga [Our] priority agenc[ies] based on reports na pumapasok sa [we are receiving at] PACC, tatlo [are three]: DPWH [Department of Public Works and Highways], BOC [Bureau of Customs], and BIR [Bureau of Internal Revenue]. And we will also look into…other priority agencies such as the DOH [Department of Health], BI [Bureau of Immigration], DA [Department of Agriculture], LRA [Land Registration Authority], and the LGUs [local government units] LGUs…dahil napakarami pong report (ang) nakukuha namin mula sa LGU [because we are receiving many reports from the LGUs].
