PAGASA: TD may not enter PH

MANILA — The tropical depression (TD) located 1,570 km. east of north Luzon might not enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at all, the weather bureau said on Tuesday.

In a forecast, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Aldczar Aurelio, said the TD, which is moving north northwest at 10 km. per hour, will “not enter the PAR”.

It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km. per hour and gustiness of up to 65 km. per hour.

Aurelio noted the weather system’s only expected effect on the country is to pull the southwest monsoon towards Visayas and Mindanao.

PAGASA said monsoon rains will prevail over Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro, and Palawan, where possible flooding and landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains could occur.

Metro Manila, Ilocos, Cordillera region, the rest of central Luzon, and western Visayas would experience occasional rains caused by the southwest monsoon, the bureau said, warning of possible flooding and landslides due to light to moderate rains in these areas.

Other parts of Luzon and the Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms still caused by the southwest monsoon. PAGASA cautioned these areas of possible flooding and landslides due to light to moderate rains.

Mindanao, meanwhile, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by local thunderstorms.

Moderate to rough coastal waters will also prevail across the country in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA sees a temperature range of 17°C to 34°C until Saturday.

On Tuesday, PAGASA recorded a peak temperature of 28.3°C and a minimum temperature of 24.5°C. (Juzel Danganan/PNA)
