PAL cancels all Osaka flights ’til Sept. 12

MANILA — Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) is cancelling all its flights to and from Osaka until Sept. 12, as the Kansai International Airport is now undergoing repair and rehabilitation.

Typhoon “Jebi” made landfall in eastern Shikoku around midday Tuesday. It was described as “the most powerful storm in Japan in 25 years.”

Operations at Kansai International Airport have been suspended since Tuesday, as it got flooded due to the storm surge brought by the typhoon.

The airport facilities and runway were also damaged. Japanese officials reportedly said the airport will reopen for domestic flights on Friday, Sept. 7.

Meanwhile, PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said there are now 55 PAL flights to and from Osaka that have been cancelled since Sept. 3.

PAL passengers may opt to reroute their flights to Nagoya, Tokyo Haneda, or Tokyo Narita, she said.

Meanwhile, another local carrier, Cebu Pacific, announced cancellation of two flights to and from Osaka scheduled for Sept. 8.

These flights are 5J 828 Manila-Osaka and 5J 827 Osaka-Manila, the carrier said. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
