Malacañang Palace declared Friday, June 24, a special non-working day in the City of Manila to commemorate its 451st founding anniversary.

Proclamation No. 1400 was signed through Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Manileños can have the opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion so long as they observe minimum public health standards observance.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government.”

Manila was founded on June 24, 1571 by Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.

In 2019, Manila was the world’s most densely populated city proper.  – ag
