Palace: Duterte in good shape despite unsteady walk in SONA

Malacañang said there is no cause for concern about President Rodrigo Duterte’s health status as he remains safe and well following his seemingly wobbly walk at the Batasang Pambansa’s plenary hall after his last State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 26.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in his briefing today (July 27) that Duterte was not brought to a hospital after he left the building after delivering his nearly three-hour speech.

“Wala pong problema kay Presidente, at natagalan siya kahapon dahil ang dami niyang chinika.. Eh mga 8:30 [p.m.] na po siya umalis ng Kongreso, dahil mukhang nag-enjoy po sa kanilang bidahan sa mga miyembro ng Kongreso,” Roque said.

Highlights

Among the landmark legislations mentioned in his speech are the Universal Health Care Act, Malasakit Centers Act, Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, Ease of Doing Business Act, Philippine Identification System Act, Salary Standardization Law V, and Rice Tariffication Law.

Duterte called on Congress to work on the following priority bills:

  • Law creating a Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos;
  • Law creating the Center for Disease Prevention and Control and the Virology and Vaccine Institute of the Philippines;
  • Disaster Resilience Act that will create the Department of Disaster Resilience;
  • Amendments of priority legislative measures such as the Foreign Investments Act, Public Service Act, and Retail Trade Liberalization Act.

Roque said both houses of Congress have already communicated their priority bills, the majority of which are included in the President’s priority list. – Report from Mela Lesmoras/AG- jlo
