Palace: Implementation of new guidelines on GCQ, extended ECQ begins May 1

Malacañang reminds the public that the new directive on the enhanced community quarantine for COVID-19 high-risk areas and general community quarantine on other areas will be implemented on May 1.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque pointed out that the government will still strictly monitor all areas to control the spread of COVID-19 even if the GCQ is lighter than the ECQ. The government is expected to release minimum health standards starting April 27.

It may also transfer funds from infrastructure projects to address the crisis, or the President may ask the Congress for a supplemental budget.

Earlier, government officials gave updates during the press briefing regarding status of health workers, local government units, and security matters.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Aῆo said that local chief executives will no longer be allowed to have unilateral declarations to place their areas under ECQ and must seek IATF approval.

NAP on COVID-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez said the Defense Secretary has already ordered for more troops in the NCR. Around 2,000 have been added.
