The palace recognizes the defects in the Philippines’s justice system, as manifested by the lost 10 years time of the 56 acquitted individuals in the Maguindanao massacre case. Said decade-long period was wastefully spent in jail. “The palace notes that there are serious flaws in our justice system long existing and must be rectified, if we are to be fealty to the rule of law and due process as enshrined in our constitution,” admits Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo. The Malacañan added that the respective families of the exonerated people similarly suffered from the deprived period. Accordingly, the palace vowed to take a step to rectify the country’s justice methodology.
