Pampanga town’s summer job beneficiaries receive pay envelopes

LUBAO, Pampanga — At least 760 students in this town, who completed the 20-day summer work under the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), have received their salaries.

Raquel Lugtu, Lubao public employment service officer, on Monday said the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the local government unit of Lubao have released a combined amount of PHP6.21 million for the salaries of the SPES beneficiaries.

SPES is a government project that provides temporary employment during the summer school break to students coming from poor families to help them defray expenses for the incoming school year.

Lugtu said that each of the beneficiaries received a 20-day salary amounting to PHP8,166.40 at a rate of PHP408.32 daily.

“The students were hired to conduct various tasks in the municipal government,” she said.

“Some SPES recipients were deployed in various barangays to conduct a survey that the PESO can utilize in planning for suitable trainings and employment generation, she added.

Sixty percent of the total salaries amounting to PHP3,723,787.40 was the LGU’s share while the remaining 40 percent was allotted by DOLE.

Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab said that the municipal government fully supports this program to help students pursue their education, which is also her administration’s priority.

“Aside from helping the students finish their studies, this program also prepares them for the real world by engaging them with work experiences,” she said. (Marna Dagumboy Del Rosario/PNA)
