Pangasinan cop chief to intensify fight vs. drugs, criminals

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The province’s new acting police director, Senior Superintendent Wilson Lopez, has vowed to strengthen operations against illegal drugs and criminality in the province.

“One of our President’s main programs is the war against drugs, to which we should follow, which also includes the continuous implementation of local ordinances against loiterers or tambays,” said Lopez in an interview on Monday.

He also promised to continue the initiatives and programs of his predecessor, Senior Superintendent Ronald Oliver Lee, who will serve in Cebu as the chief of staff of the Philippine National Police Regional Office.

“We aim to further lower the crime rates, especially on illegal drugs,” he added.

The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) has recorded a 10-percent drop in crimes in the province from January to June this year.

Lopez further revealed that no reshuffling will be done among police officials in his area of responsibility.

“No rigodon (reshuffling) will happen, unless someone is required to leave the post, then we will immediately fill it in,” he said.

Lopez was previously assigned as Chief Officer of Support Service in Camp Crame before assuming his new post in Pangasinan.

He is not new to Pangasinan as he hailed from this town and had served in PPO prior to his assignment in Camp Crame.

“I am from Lingayen, so my heart is in Pangasinan. It is really nice to be back here. Rest assured that under my leadership, police force will always be partner of the provincial government in making our province a safe place to live, invest and do business,” Lopez told the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members during his courtesy call during their regular session here on Monday.

Meanwhile, he called for cooperation among police forces in the province.

“We need to ensure that all our police officers would be cooperative if we were to achieve peace and order in the province,” he said. (Ahikam Pasion/PNA)
