Pangasinan LGUs get “Seal of Good Governance’ award

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The province of Pangasinan and its 24 local government units (LGUs) were chosen as among the recipients of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) awards this year, based from the list of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) released on October 1.

In an interview on Wednesday. DILG provincial director Agnes De Leon said LGU awardees comprise half of the total 48 towns and cities in Pangasinan.

De Leon said Alaminos is the only city in the province chosen as SGLG awardee for city government category.

In the municipality category, Agno, Aguilar, Alcala, Anda, Balungao, Bayambang, Binalonan, Bugallon, Burgos, Calasiao, Infanta, Lingayen, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Mangatarem, Natividad, San Manuel, San Nicolas, Sta. Maria, Tayug, Umingan, Urbiztondo and Villasis were among the awardees, she said.

De Leon said the LGUs were adjudged based on financial administration, disas ter preparedness, social protection, peace and order; business friendliness and competitiveness; environmental protection; and tourism culture and arts.

“Some of the LGUs did not pass the SGLG because of their low utilization of funds, especially with the disaster risk reduction management fund,” she said.

SGLG awardees will receive a performance challenge fund (PCF), the amount pf which will still be announced by DILG, she noted.

Last year, Pangasinan received PCF worth PHP3 million, while its 32 LGUs awarded with SGLG received PHP2 million each, De Leon said.

She encouraged the other LGUs to strive to attain the SGLG award for next year.

The DILG said 263 out of 1,715 LGUs nationwide were awarded the 2018 SGLG. (Hilda Austria/PNA)
