Pangasinan peaceful, orderly on Christmas day

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The celebration of Christmas all over Pangasinan province was generally peaceful and orderly, except for a few incidents, such as minor vehicular accidents and indiscriminate gun firing, the provincial police reported Tuesday.

Pangasinan Police information officer, Chief Insp. Norman Florentino, said fortunately, no one was injured when Raquily Bado, 49, a businessman and councilman of Barangay Trenchera, Tayug town, fired his gun twice. He was promptly arrested after the incident on Christmas Eve.

Florentino cited the standing one-strike policy within the Philippine National Police where the chief of police would be relieved if an indiscriminate firing of gun results in death or injury and the case is not resolved within 24 hours.

The one-strike policy, however, does not cover the indiscriminate firing in Tayug because the suspect was immediately arrested, he said.

Florentino added that no injury related to firecracker explosion has so far been registered anywhere in the province.

He said policemen were mobilized to continue patrolling the streets to maintain the stable peace and order situation up to New Year’s Day. (Leonardo Micua/PNA)
