ZAMBOANGA CITY — The “Pascua na Zamboanga 2018” will officially kick off on Friday with the grand switch-on ceremony of the light display in City Hall and surrounding landmarks.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar will lead the traditional switch-on ceremony at 6 p.m. that will officially commence the Christmas season in this southern port city.

Salazar said this year’s Christmas light display and decors complement the theme, “I Love Zamboanga” that seeks to reflect the spirit of peace, love, and joy for the holidays.

She invited residents to witness the ceremony as City Hall lights up for Christmas.

“Together with the GSO (General Services Office) team, we have been preparing the Christmas gifts for children of all ages in Zamboanga City to celebrate,” she said.

The landmarks that are part of the light display include the Paseo del Mar, Rizal St., Veterans Memorial Monument, Mayor Vitaliano Agan Ave. (Nuñez Extension), Rotary rotunda, Plaza Pershing, and Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca Park.

Salazar said the switch-on ceremony of the City Hall lights display is one of the three highlights of the Pascua na Zamboanga 2018, the others being the Inter-barangay Christmas Landmark and the Canciones de Pascua Inter-school Chorale competitions.

The Inter-barangay Christmas Landmark competition will feature constructed landmarks from participating barangays that incorporate Christmas symbols and a lighted ‘I Love Zamboanga’ logo.

On the other hand, the Canciones de Pascua competition will be open to all school-based chorale groups in this city.
