Pasig ends record slump with rout of Basilan

MANILA — In a stretch uncharacteristic of its Metropolitan Basketball Association predecessor, the modern-day incarnation of the Pasig Pirates dropped its last six games, the longest skid in the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup, sending the club to the bottom of the Northern Division standings.

On Thursday night, the slump came to end in style.
Pasig snapped its long skid with a 102-77 rout of Basilan at the Strike Gymnasium in Bacoor, Cavite.
In a performance reminiscent of how they became championship contenders in the defunct regional league, the Pirates stepped on the gas from the start, quickly opening a double-digit lead that even went to as high as 33 points behind a crisp field goal shooting and balanced scoring that saw all of their players converting at least one field goal.
Mark Bautista and Francis Camacho each tallied 12 points to lead six players in double figures for Pasig, which moved up to 2-9.
Dennis Daa’s 27-point outburst hardly mattered for Basilan as the team dropped to 11th place in the Southern Division at 4-8. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
