Reinforcing the government’s progressive stance towards renewable energy, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited the Ning*Ning Solar Rooftop Power Facility in Naic, Cavite on Tuesday.
In his remarks at the event, Marcos hailed this project as the world’s first grid-connected, utility-scale solar rooftop project within a socialized housing community, with the promise of leading the path as the country moves away from fossil fuels in its power generation facilities.
“This is a prime example of that creativity, of the new thinking, of innovation that brings technologies together in an imaginative and innovative way—to the advantage [of] the residents here, to the power generation in our country, [and] to our shift from fossil fuels to renewables.”
The President went on to discuss the benefits of this project in powering residents’ homes and adding power reserves to the electricity grid, which includes responsible usage of land resources by integrating solar panels into existing infrastructures and reducing carbon emissions by harnessing the sun’s rays to generate power.
Marcos touted this initiative as one of the government’s measures to mitigate the effects of climate change, “Patuloy tayong kumikilos upang tugunan ang lumalalang epekto ng climate change. Ngunit, alam natin hindi ito kayang aksyunan ng iisang sektor lamang. Kailangan natin ng tulong ng bawat komunidad, bawat pamilya, bawat Pilipino. Ito po ang nakita natin sa proyektong ito.”
The Ning*Ning 6.55 Megawatt Peak Solar Project equips 1,986 homes with rooftop solar panels, allowing them to collectively generate clean power.
This project has already won Gold for ESG Integration Excellence and Silver for Sustainable Renewable Energy Initiative of the Year for the Asian Power Awards 2025.
Marcos was accompanied at the event by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla, and Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin.
