The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Marine Environmental Protection Group Aklan (MEPGROUP) said no sign yet of an oil slick on Boracay Island.
The PCG conducted a coastal monitoring patrol at shorelines of Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan on Sunday, March 5.
This, after an oil slick started to affect the three coastal barangays in Caluya, Antique putting the PCG on high alert on the possibility that an oil spill may also reach the area.
The oil slick from the sinking motor tanker reached several shorelines of municipalities in Oriental Mindoro and already reached as far as Antique, according to PCG.
The oil spill is the leak from the MT Princess Empress tanker that submerged due to engine trouble on Feb. 28 off the coast of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. The ship was carrying around 800,000 liters of industrial fuel. – gb
